A project about symbols.
I visited Flushing Meadow Park and went to see the Westinghouse Time Capsules, through which I found the creators back then designed a series of symbols to people 5000 years later explaining modern English. The use of symbols in this context remind me of ancient language that are almost like illustrations. After a research on meaning of symbols changing throughout time, I finally come up with 5 symbols (laser cut transparent acrylic board) and 10 double sided cards. The cards show meanings of the same symbol in the past/present, with the back side explaining where it comes from and why. Users may play with the actual objects, trying to match up the pairs and learn how simple gestures can contain various meanings and how they evolve at the same time.
